Estate Agency
Client money and landlord statements, handled properly
12 September 2026
An agency collecting rent on a landlord's behalf takes on the same client-money responsibility a regulated firm does. Rent held in a segregated client money account, kept properly apart from the agency's own funds, gives that relationship the rigour it needs.
Every transaction against the account - rent in, fees deducted, balance paid out - is recorded individually, so the account's history is a full, auditable record rather than a running total nobody can fully explain.
A landlord statement can then be produced at any time straight from those recorded transactions, without a separate spreadsheet kept in parallel just to generate it.
Frequently asked questions
Is rent collected on behalf of landlords kept separate from agency funds?
Yes - it's held in a segregated client money account, kept properly apart from the agency's own accounts at every point.
How is a landlord statement produced?
Directly from the transactions already recorded against their client money account, with no separate spreadsheet to maintain.
