Legal Matters
Matter tracking with step-by-step conveyancing pipelines for purchases, sales and auctions, plus time recording, document management, and client trust accounting.
Not part of any Bundle. Included in both Solicitor plans (Solo and Team), which conveyancing firms use too.
Matter tracking
Every matter has its own record - a matter type, an owning contact, a responsible user, a status, and a timeline of every change and file note. Nothing about a matter's progress lives in someone's inbox or a shared spreadsheet.
Conveyancing pipelines
A conveyancing matter runs on one of four pipelines - Purchase, Sale, Auction purchase and Auction sale - each broken into stages from instruction and onboarding through exchange, completion and post-completion. Tenure and funding decide which steps apply: a leasehold file gets the LPE1 management pack, lease term, ground rent and Building Safety Act checks and the post-completion notices, a freehold file gets covenant and estate rentcharge checks, and a mortgage adds the offer, lender requirements and certificate of title.
Auction files support both traditional auctions (exchange on the fall of the hammer) and the modern method (reservation, then exchange within 28 days). Exchange sets a completion deadline automatically, and the file warns as it approaches.
Key dates drive due dates: the pre-auction report is due the day before the auction, pre-completion searches a few days before completion, and the SDLT return within 14 days of it. Change a file's tenure or funding mid-transaction and its steps re-sync, keeping everything already done. Firms can add their own steps to any file, and every party - the other side's conveyancer, estate agent, broker, lender, managing agent or auctioneer - sits on the matter with their contact details and reference.
Time recording and billing
Log time directly against a matter using the same Time Recording module the rest of the platform uses, then pull unbilled entries straight into an invoice from Billing - see those docs for the full flow.
Client trust accounting
Client money is held in its own segregated ledger (Client Money Accounts and Transactions), kept properly apart from the practice's own funds - the same client-money pattern the Finance module uses for a different regulator, applied to a solicitor's trust-account obligations.
